Production line and subsequent capacity increase for battery packs
PIA Fact Check
- Capacity doubled to 100 battery packs/week
- Global collaboration across three locations
- Capacity increase during ongoing production

State-of-the-art assembly line for battery production for Italian high-performance sports cars
PIA developed a state-of-the-art battery pack production line for an Italian high-performance sports car. The system comprised of manual, semi-automated, and fully automated assembly stations. The products were transported through the production process by the workers using manipulators and transport trolleys.
Battery packs were manufactured on the PIA line by forming modules from pouch cells and assembling them into complete battery packs. A special challenge during the install, due to increases in production, required PIA to implement the system during ongoing production or during short production breaks.
Efficient and flexible battery production: capacity doubled
The production line covers an area of approx. 21 x 22 meters and produced 50 battery packs per week. A technical upgrade of the system optimized the output to 100 battery packs. The line includes 9 manual workstations and 7 semi-automatic stations. The special stations include a highly flexible robot dosing station for sealing compounds, laser welding with hold-down device, and stacking stations for pouch cells, as well as electrical and leak test stations.

Global cooperation: Three PIA locations join forces to successfully increase capacity
The recipe for success in this project was the close cooperation between three locations in Europe and Asia from the PIA network. PIA Austria supplied the first expansion stage of the assembly systems. PIA Bad Neustadt supplied the electrical and leak testing technology. And, PIA Ningbo implemented the project to increase capacity.
„The excellent cooperation and global reach of our company allowed us to implement complex projects efficiently, successfully and quickly."
