Efficient production line even for sensitive individual parts

Sprinkler systems must trigger quickly and reliably before a fire can spread. Our customer, a well-established manufacturer of fire protection systems, wanted to expand its production capacity and improve the quality of its products at the same time. The existing production line was outdated and could no longer meet the increasing requirements.

Assembly and testing system that can produce 347 variants in 35 basic types

The new production line comprises four interlinked assembly cells and a total of 49 assembly and testing stations. First, spray disks are separated by a vibration impact and fed into the machine using a flex feeder. Then the disks are positioned precisely in the appropriate nest by a pick & place system.

Next, the sprinkler nozzles are connected to the spray plate using wobble rivets. The torque and position are checked. In the next production process, a thread is cut and then the product is cleaned to remove all excess particles from the thread cutting. The sealing cone and seal are fed in and inserted at the same time at the next module. In the next station, the ampoule threaded pin and the ampoule are fed and inserted into the nozzle.

High speed despite complex production steps

In this complex production step, the ampoule is threaded into the sprinkler, pre-tensioned with the grub screw, and tightened to a specified torque. Afterwards a leak test is performed. Finally, an ampoule test is carried out in which the part is heated and checked by a camera system to confirm it is fully intact.

Finally, the spray plate is laser-marked, a threaded pin is sealed with a drop of adhesive and cured by UV light. The assembly is concluded by a final test station.
