The leading trade show for smart and digital automation took place for the 30th time in Nuremberg. From November 26 to 28, start-ups and global market leaders alike used the platform to showcase their products and solutions to expert exhibition visitors. PIA Automation presented on the Siemens booth the new PIA Industrial App Suite, running on MindSphere®.

The continuous optimization of the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) remains a main target in producing industries. Focusing on these challenges PIA developed the PIA Industrial App Suite, which offers powerful smart applications as well as storage of production and process data, all seamlessly connected to MindSphere®, the cloud-based, open IoT operating system from Siemens. The PIA solution monitors the health of the plant assets and processes and analyzes the historical and online data from the production lines. This allows the identification of correlation of events, which could lead to process blockage and other types of unexpected downtime, therefore helping prevent such problems proactively and thus leading to optimal asset utilization. The strategic cooperation between PIA and Siemens therefore helps deliver new production insights and measurable results – and of that the visitors could convince themselves at the SPS.

Claude Eisenmann (CDO)

"The award confirms: PIA combines know-how from special mechanical engineering & digitization."

Industry 4.0 Innovation Award

The SPS was also the venue for a prize-giving ceremony: The Industry 4.0 Innovation Award was presented for the fourth time in 2019 by VDE Verlag in cooperation with ZVEI and the Standardization Council Industrie 4.0. A jury of experts reviewed all submissions for the award and selected the ten best I4.0 innovations. The finalists were determined by an online voting. And piaOptimum made it to the 2nd place!

piaOptimum is an application of the PIA Industrial App Suite, that identifies bottlenecks in complex, interlinked assembly plants, and allows for the rapid and sustainable optimization of production efficiency thanks to the data transparency. For Claude Eisenmann, Chief Digital Officer of the PIA Group, the award is “a confirmation that PIA combines the special know-how from two worlds: special machine construction and digitization”. With the digitization strategy “PIA 4.0” PIA wants to further expand its position within the global market as well as offer the customers added value. Due to this, PIA provides the digital solution portfolio of the PIA Industrial App Suite.
