Production plant for electric motor (hybrid model)
PIA Fact Check
- Partnership during the development phase
- Complex product with many variants
- Pre-assembly of key stations for prototype production

Innovative assembly system for electric motors in hybrid vehicles
A cutting-edge production line — featuring a differential gearbox and two gear stages — was specifically developed for assembling electric motors used in hybrid vehicles. With 70 stations and a wide range of both automated and manual operations, the system delivers a modern, high-performance manufacturing solution.
Developed in close partnership with the customer
Close collaboration with the customer was essential to navigating the complex industrialization and product adjustment process. The high level of complexity in the electric motors — due to numerous components and multiple variants — demanded intensive coordination throughout the development phase.
A unique aspect of this project was PIA’s decision to pre-install key process stations at the production site, enabling the customer to build and validate initial prototypes early in the project. These stations — including pressing, screwing, sealant application, disk measurement, stator and rotor installation, induction heating, and testing — were later reintegrated into the full assembly line.

“Adjusting the wheel set components for position and preload requires extensive expertise and high-precision measuring equipment — both of which we’ve already integrated extensively at PIA.”
Daniel Kogler, Global Sales Manager E-Mobility & Powertrain at PIA Automation
