State-of-the-art production line for glow plugs
PIA Automation has developed a state-of-the-art production line specially designed for the production of glow plugs. This line consists of six modules that are seamlessly connected by a WT circulation system and also have a master computer system.
Modular structure of the production line:
Module 1: The glow plug is assembled in the first module. The assembly consists of three components that are pressed together in a force-displacement-monitored manner.
Module 2: In the second module, the assembly from the first module is laser-welded and a length measurement is carried out.
Module 3 : In this module, the body of the glow plug is assembled. The body length is measured and the inside of the body is greased. The heating rod is then pressed into the body under force-displacement monitoring. Proper assembly is also ensured by means of length measurement and visual inspection of the contours.
Module 4: The adapter is mounted in the module. The adapter is pressed in and crimped.
Module 5: The fully assembled glow plug is subjected to a heat and function test in the fifth module.
Module 6: Finally, the thread is re-rolled and the geometry checked. Clear text and a QR code are applied, read and cross-checked using laser marking. Finally, a cold resistance test and packaging are carried out.

Different variants thanks to simple setup process
Adding even more value, the line is able to process different diameters, whereby two sets (1x production, 1x waiting position) can be changed automatically. The rest of the set-up is carried out via program specifications. Over 20 servo axes automatically move to other basic positions to maximize the flexibility and efficiency of the line
