PIA delivers creative and smart automation solutions that enable companies to achieve maximum efficiency in their production with a low use of resources. We are underscoring this mission at automatica in Munich (Germany) from June 21 to 24 not only with the trade fair motto "creating efficiency", but with a completely new brand identity. On top of that, visitors to our Booth 310 in Hall A6 can discover the latest automation concepts for transport systems as well as smart software applications.

In the field of systems technology, PIA will present the PIA meditec® process module with a robot application. What makes the modular cell concept unique? The use of a medically suitable drive system based on SuperTrak by B&R, which is highly flexible, allowing the transport and positioning of the smallest components at high pulse rates as well as parts weighing up to 10 kg per shuttle with high repeating accuracy.

Another product in the transport category is the PIAAMR®, a mobile workpiece carrier and workstation in one. It serves as a driverless transport vehicle with its own drivetrain, which can be deployed in the assembly and production areas of the automotive industry or for logistics applications in other industries. The robot moves autonomously from one point to another with a payload of up to 1,000 kg and a speed of less than 1.5 m/s. Free laser navigation and a simple charging concept mean that the AMR is immediately available for the next task. A flexible layout enables completely free orientation in the operating area.

Smart software for systems optimisation

Alongside systems technology, PIA will be showcasing Industry 4.0 innovations and the latest software applications at automatica. The PIA Industrial App Suite (piaIAS) is a modular software package containing smart applications for mastering challenges in assembly line operation and optimisation. The individual modules are always tailored to the specific needs of each customer. This means that assembly and testing systems can be analysed worldwide, their weak points localised, and the productivity of the system parts increased. For example, smart tools provide information for line workers, assessments for shift managers and maintenance teams, or reports for management. All piaIAS apps share the following advantages:

  • Increasing the degree of digitalisation of production
  • Future-proofing thanks to modular, expandable design
  • Reduction of travel through location- and device-independent access

Visitors to the company’s trade fair booth can also experience PIA-VR and see the potential practical uses of virtual reality in everyday automation tasks, including joint ergonomics testing with customers using a state-of-the art VR meeting tool and interactive process training.
