Every year in January there is a special event at PIA Austria, which celebrates the beginning of new PIA Academy year. In the previous years, we had different special guests and special topics for this kick-off event:

  • 2016 "Motivation": Felix Gottwald (the most successful Austrian Olympia sportsman)
  • 2017 "Fun & Joy": Stermann & Grissemann (German-Austrian satirists)
  • 2018 "Education is movement from darkness to light": with Andy Holzer (blind climber and extreme sportsman)

This year, our moto was “Programmed for the future”, with big focus on robotics, programming, 3D simulations and VR, which are among others trainings in our PIA Academy course program 2019.

Gerald Steinbauer, professor of Institute of Software Development at Technical University (TU) Graz, was our keynote speaker and told us many interesting facts about smart systems (we have learned that "robotics" is out and "smart systems" are in). Peter Frauscher of Technical School Bulme in Graz, as well as Wolfgang Weiss, Department Manager PLC Programming PIA Austria, joined Mr. Steinbauer in a panel discussion about education, research and praxis and how those 3 areas can cooperate in a best way.

After the presentation of PIA Academy course program for 2019, done by Danijela Ernst (Head HR, PIA Austria), we have opened our 4 live demo stations for the public:

  • GRIPS robots of TU Graz
  • FLL robots of Technical School Bulme
  • VR-glasses and 3D Simulations
  • Virtual commissioning using digital twin

Our employees were very interested in all topics discussed as well as in all live demo stations. This showed us clearly that this years` moto was right and that we have achieved the best possible start of our Academy year.
