PIA Automation Austria has received a major order from a German premium automobile manufacturer for an axel drive production line.

PIA Automation Austria (formerly M&R Automation) based in Grambach Graz, has won another major bid. Daimler has ordered a high-tech production plant for axle drives from the Styrian company. Daimler is one of the world's most successful automobile companies. Daimler's brand portfolio includes Mercedes-Benz, one of the world's most valuable premium automobile brands. This order contributes significantly to a record order backlog at PIA Austria at the end of the first quarter of fiscal 2019.

Innovative Automation Solutions for Powertrain Systems

"This major order underscores our position on the market and speaks for the outstanding performance of our production facilities as well as for the satisfaction of our customers", says managing director Norbert Kahr. "As with our powertrain customers, we have continued to evolve our technology over the past 30 years to meet ever increasing demands. With the PPS powertrain production system module series, our systems are among the most flexible systems in the world and offer a clear technological advantage in high volume production", continues Mr. Kahr.

PIA Automation Austria: Competence Center for Powertrain

Motors of various types, different categories of gearboxes and their high-end components demand high-end production solutions. Especially within this area, the demand for intelligent and cost-effective production systems is growing greatly. At the same time, efficiency, quality, flexibility and availability within the production sector must continue to increase without reducing process reliability. The solution for this is found in modular production systems. The PPS module series from PIA unites innovation, quality and efficiency under one roof. The modular production units include all machinery required to assemble and test powertrain units. In this area, PIA has re-written automotive history. Numerous technology developments included in the powertrain are based on automated processes that were developed at PIA Austria and further developed. "In Europe and North America we stand among the market leaders within the manufacturing of powertrain component equipment. That's why the Styrian location with its 400 employees is the global powertrain base of the entire PIA Group," reports Norbert Kahr. PIA's PPS module series has been used successfully for many years by leading automotive suppliers such as Magna and ZF as well as vehicle manufacturers such as Daimler, BMW and Volkswagen.

Advantage Through Further Development and Further Education

Anton Maierhofer, managing director responsible for the operative business, places particular importance on the continuous technical development of the company. “Production solutions should increase efficiency and flexibility and the know-how of PIA is in high demand. Therefore, only through continuous development of our technologies and further training of our employees can we consolidate and expand our technological lead and growth. Several years ago we installed a research and development department within Grambach which deals with the development of complete solutions for the topic of Industry 4.0".

Lifelong learning, on-the-job training and continuous upgrading are not simply talk at PIA. "We know that we can only maintain our excellent international reputation if we invest in the qualifications of our employees. Our in-house PIA Academy offers specialized seminars and personal trainings such as intercultural skills and work-life balance courses all carried out for free for our staff", said Anton Maierhofer.
