Flexible production systems for battery packs for a young OEM

Efficient and flexible production is crucial in order to meet the increasing demands of electromobility. The demand for high-performance battery packs is growing steadily as numerous car manufacturers switch to electric drives. Innovative and reliable production solutions are essential to meet this demand.

Automated module lines and packing line

As part of this project PIA Automation supplied two fully automated module lines, each consisting of two cell preparation lines and one module line. In addition, a packing line was installed, which included modules for manual assembly as well as fully automated stations. The battery packs were transported by AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles).
The system was comprised of 30 automatic stations and 4 manual or semi-automatic stations. This configuration enabled efficient and flexible production of battery packs.

Expandable production concept and fast delivery

The entire system was designed and realized in just 10 months. A special feature was the flexible design of the entire system. This flexibility will make it easy to integrate future product generations. The planning phase for these expansions is already underway.

Concurrent Engineering

Concurrent engineering was a challenge for the project, but PIA solved this efficiently. The product was developed in parallel with the system development, which required close cooperation between the customer's development departments and PIA. The production readiness and commissioning of the entire system was achieved with minimal use of production parts, which reflects the good cooperation between the project management and production teams.
