Fully automated assembly line: a technical success story
Two fully automated assembly lines developed and realized in cooperation between the PIA sites in Europe and China are a prime example of international cooperation, technical know-how, and efficient project management within the PIA Group.
Customer requirement: Delivery of two identical machines with an offset of three months for production facilities in Germany and China.
Due to the time pressure, the solution for the development and delivery of two identical systems on different continents consisted of a comprehensive global project & development team and the parallel construction and commissioning of the two systems with local teams.
The engineers in Europe began with the design, planning, and construction of the first system. Just three months later, the Chinese site installed an identical replica of the system.
With a global project manager, all information was centralized and the project could be ideally managed. This strategy proved its worth: information flowed smoothly, decisions were made quickly, and the project remained on schedule.
Each assembly line consists of a total of 14 process modules and three buffer modules. In addition, a work piece carrier (WPC) circulation system with an intelligent control system was integrated: 45 robots and 30 palletizers enabled the smooth assembly and testing of the electric shavers. In addition, the development and assembly of the system took place in a separate cordoned-of area in order to comply with the required safety measures.
This fully automated assembly line is more than just a technical and organizational masterpiece. It is a symbol of international cooperation, innovation, and the added value that customers can expect from PIA Automation.
